IDC sees slow decline in PC device market next five years
International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -2.0% for global shipments of personal computing devices (PCDs) — composed of traditional PCs (desktop, notebooks and workstations) and tablets (slates, detachables). Traditional PCs will drop from 260 million in 2016 to 248 million in 2021, due to a steep desktop PC decline. Tablets will drop from 175 million to 146 million, with only detachable tablets showing growth (from 21.5 to 37.1 million, with half being Windows-based).
